<upd_detl>My understanding is that this word refers to a distinctive sound "fingerprint" produced by e.g. submarines and captured by sonar. Daijirin therefore has a reference to ソナー at the end of its entry for 音紋. Daijisen says the signal is analyzed on a sonagraph.
I don't see any reason to believe that "音紋" is synonymous with "sonar."</upd_detl>
