<upd_detl>Perhaps also/instead: "to dream of becoming".
I've seen this a couple of times now as [profession]に憧れていた. If I just google "に憧れ" I get hits like:
and this:
None of the current glosses seem to handle this.
We could squeeze the senses into [1], but they are at odds with other, and both [1] and [2] are possible for the same structure depending on context. Eijiro currently has, for example:
star-struck
But I'll bet "I wanted to be a movie star" is also possible. Giving two senses makes it explicit that this ambiguity exists.
My most recent sighting: -> "I used to dream of being an adventurer too". Other(better) translation: You're an adventurer? I wanted to be one a long time ago.</upd_detl>

cost someone his dream job
yearn to be a nurse
Some professions I guessed:
Ambiguous. Admire a specific ballplayer, want to be a ballplayer:
And this is neat:

1. I admire celebrities.
2. I've wanted to be a celebrity.
