I'm also suspicious of the glosses given for sense 2.  Both would appear to apply to the subject, not whatever is being modified by the adjective.

e.g. You might hear some depressing news, but you aren't going to hear depressed news.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>Leaving the sense split to one side, the gg5 example still doesn't point to an [adj-i] entry of depressed, as opposed to /depressing/.

Both 'depressed' and 'having the blues' are about being in a state of depression, as opposed to being depression inducing.  The example is clearly talking about 'it' (the situation) not, for example, the person who was there.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>OK. I agree "depressing" is really sense 1. That "have the blues" in GG5 doesn't really fit in an adj-i gloss that well (blues-inducing?), but I guess the coverage is pretty clear.</upd_detl>

If we look here: http://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q1422336424 someone gives two examples:
辛気臭い話→気がめいる暗い話
辛気臭い人→気がめいるような暗い格好や態度や性格

This seems to be confirmed in practice. E.g. http://twitter.com/chapter_22/status/7044869550 for the depressing, dark (story) 

daijirin has the しんきくさいはなし　example. Koj and daijirin have しんきくさいしごと

Though for the depressed (person) meaning, it would be better to have more examples.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>I encountered this as [1](example below).  More comments at the main 心気 entry.  I think 心気 is clearly its own thing by the ngrams(18376), and by the counts given for 心気くさい(~100), I think this kanji is best hidden under [sK] as a spelling error.

sankoku splits the senses [1] and [2].  I sometimes see these entries were very unrelated glosses are sitting next to each other to avoid splitting senses... In the context I saw this was distinctly nothing to do with annoyance or irritation.

I'm not sure how to interpret sankoku's dialect notes. Note that they are different for [1] and [2].  The もと in （もと関西方言） suggests to me that this *was* kansai-ben, but is now more generally recognized?  Do we note this("formerly kansaiben?") [2] is still recorded as a strictly regional dialect, but is more broad than kansaiben. (関西・中部・中国方言)

The use I encountered was by a young, brash, anime warrior-type character, and I know these figures often get "rough" dialects assigned to them, but I'm not an expert on that.
