<upd_detl>Daijr, GG5, ルミナス, etc. merge 碗 and 椀, but Daijr adds: "木製のものは「椀」,陶磁器製のものは「碗」と書く". I think that's a good reason for keeping them apart.

Kanjipedia has 盌 as an itaiji of 碗 and doesn't mention 盌 in its entry for 椀</upd_refs>

<upd_detl>I don't really feel the need to revisit the 2013 decision to leave them split. 
I guess 盌 can be added somewhere as [oK] or [sK] if anyone has the energy.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>I'll propose that we add 盌 to our entry for 碗.</upd_detl>
<upd_refs>I just noticed that sankoku mentions it as well. The 7th edition merges 碗 and 盌, but the 8th edition explains the differences in a note in its 椀 entry:
  陶磁器は「碗」、金属は「鋺」、小鉢は「盌」。</upd_refs>
