has a positive connotation, i.e. it's not just "an 
atmosphere" but a positive one.

I put the "air/atmosphere" sense last because I think it 
might be a little obsolete/archaic - I've never heard it 
used as such and there's this in daijs: "〔幕末にオランダ語 
lucht の訳語とされ，明治初期に英語 atmosphere の訳語となり，明
治後期に抽象的な意を持つようになる。「気海観瀾」（1827年）に載

たまに聞く言葉ですが、なんとなく分かるような分からないような。
誉め言葉であるとは思うのですが、いまいち掴めません。
男女問わず、具体的にどのような感じの人を言うのでしょうか。

Such a note might be an exception here, but this term is actually exceptional.  The term may be *the* example of a word-in-transformation in Japanese.

I was *taught* to say "hwinki", in Japan, in a Japanese classroom, by a late-20s/early-30s Japanese teacher.  The impression was that your speech would sound a bit stilted if you tried to say huniki. (perhaps like "whatcha doin?"/ "what are you doing")</upd_detl>
