<upd_detl>I believe the kanji version (見つめる) is more commonly used than kana (みつめる). A google search seems to support this assumption. (みつめる 700k/ 見つめる 7M/ 見詰める 300k)</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>I agree; it's not "uk". I think that tag got there a long time ago to indicate that 見つめる is more common than 見詰める, which is what most dictionaries have as headwords.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>凝める isn't in my refs and I don't know where it came from. Possibly a mistyping of 見凝める, which gets a handful of hits in Aozora.
