although it specifies that it's actually the archaic form of 別れる.

-kojien doesn't make the distinction because it combines わか・れる【分かれる・別れる】, but since ~we~ keep our entries for 分かれる and 別れる separate, i don't think 別る should be added here.  also, it also can't be given its own entry because it's a v2</upd_refs>

スーパー大辞林 3.0 has the following explanation of the difference between 分かれる and 別れる:
[表記] わかれる ( 分 ・別 )
「分かれる」は“一つのものが別々のいくつかになる。違いが生じる”の意。「タクシー三台に分かれて乗る」「道が分かれる」「この作品については評価が分かれる」

    判る if you will look at the kanji you will think the word 判断できる which means judgement, discriminate, knowing the right from wrong, knowing between two similar things,

<upd_detl>While that information about 解る and 判る is interesting, it's also rather marginal. GG5 and ルミナス don't even show those kanji forms and the kokugos downplay them. (I'm dropping the "spec1" tags).
I suspect it's probably adding some unnecessary clutter to the entry.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>We decided on a 1M n-grams threshold for spec1. 解る and 判る meet this easily (when inflected forms are included).
But I don't think we can adequately explain the nuances of these forms in a short usage note.</upd_detl>
