Seems better to mark "Buddhist" given all the juxtapositions with Christian phrases than to leave wholly unmarked.

I suspect that this is so engrained in Japanese culture (like RIP in Western culture) that its use expands outward to other religions and non-religious people.  I think it's still worth noting (and feel the same with RIP/Christianity), that it is underlyingly  a Buddhist sentiment.

wikipedia article has a whole section called "タブー", and points out you might want to avoid this with Christians and Atheists. Safe and neutral:

<upd_detl>No, the Buddhism tag is for terms which are specific to that religion, or where the term is used predominately there. This one is used a lot for Christian contexts - see the GG "mass read".</upd_detl>
