<upd_detl>Is 「っはなし」 a correct reading? My understanding is that this case would undergo rendaku. In fact, this is basically the only hit in JMDict with 「っは」 in the reading.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>DIJG says that when the preceding verb is transitive, っぱなし "means that someone does something to X and leaves X as it is without putting it back to its original state, which is not the proper way." When the preceding verb is transitive, っぱなし "means that something or something keeps doing something."
Prog and wisdom split along these lines.
