<upd_detl>Just the comment of a nonspecialist here, but "character
code" doesn't seem correct as the term for an entire
character set or character encoding. I only recall hearing
"character code" as the number for a specific character.
(The Wikipedia "Character Encoding" article, which I just
checked, in fact uses "character code" a couple of times in
this "wrong" way -- but who knows who wrote it.) At the
least I suggest making "character encoding" your first
definition.</upd_detl>
<upd_refs>Microsoft properly uses the plural in its "ANSI Character
Codes Chart" (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-
us/library/aa245259(v=vs.60).aspx). This example shows how a
misunderstanding could arise, esp. among people whose
language doesn't regularly use plural forms.</upd_refs>
