ChatGPT: "The Japanese term "式変形" can be translated to "algebraic manipulation" or "algebraic transformation" in English. It refers to the process of manipulating mathematical expressions or equations to simplify or transform them into a different form while preserving their mathematical equivalence. This process is commonly used in algebra, calculus, and other branches of mathematics."</upd_refs>

<upd_detl>I drafted the gloss before looking at the ChatGPT translation, and didn't base my suggestion on it.
I've checked quite a few terms with it, and it's often quirky with single terms. I think it has a role to play in the development of entries but at present it certainly can't be a primary reference.</upd_detl>
