行の中で、文字列をどの位置を基準に揃えるかという設定のこと。横組みの場合、左揃え、右揃え、中央合わせ（センタリング）などの種類がある。また、行の左端から右端までに文字を均等の間隔で配置する均等割付（強制割付）、やはり両端に揃えるものの複数行に渡る場合には最後の行だけ左揃えにする両端合わせ（ジャスティファイ）といった揃え方もある。なお、これらの用語はソフトによっても異なる。

ぎょうぞろえ / justify;justification
文字組版の各行の行頭・行末を揃え，行長を一定にすること。和文組版では原則的に文字が正方形であり，規定された文字の整数倍を基準とする。欧文組版では語間のスペースでこれを行い，必要があれば語句をハイフンでつなぎ次行に送る。</upd_refs>
