<upd_detl>Open question... do these two terms actually have different reading requirements on 頬: ほお・ほほ. If either of these terms would prefer ほほ, you'd think it would be hoooo ほおを...染める, but that entry is ほお. Would a Japanese person distinguish these if reading today? I may ask around later, but even that may not give a good answer.

It *seems* like this entry should probably have a ほおそめる reading, and the xref should probably have a ほほをそめる reading. Looks like a lot of 頬 entries probably merit both readings, but in this case it's particularly odd two have to apparently-related forms with different readings...

<upd_detl>Searched twitter, all forms represented with photos. I don't know by what logic one would order ほおそめる and ほほそめる. Clearly "ほお" is the "modern" form, maybe the whole expression is a little dated though? I would be cautious of ordering differently between 頬を染める and 頬染める if there isn't some very compelling reason...

If anything ほほ seems more prevalant when spelled out, but perhaps that's because it is the exception to the rule, and 頬染める would usually be read ほお.</upd_detl>
