<upd_detl>I was baffled how 危険極まる＝危険極まりない. 

In any case, the other form is by far the more common one, and they are absolute synonyms.  X極まりない also appears to be a very productive structure beyond this entry. Maybe a Japanese student somewhere will see this xref and ask their teacher about it...</upd_detl>

Interesting article on precisely this entry.  How is that that 危険極まる = 危険極まりない
Short answer, "nai" got tacked on emphatically as "nothing even beyond the limit", and both forms survived...(my limited understanding of the japanese)
