<upd_detl>Making this suggestion because of the incongruity with 春霜, where the reading はるしも was added in 2013. I imagine the use cases for しゅんそう・はるしも and しゅうそう、あきしも are roughly comparable.

It seems like the evidence suggests that しゅうそう is the correct, historical, poetic reading.  But maybe naming a battleship あきしも didn't do the historic reading any favors(though the furigana.info reference predates even that).</upd_detl>
