<upd_detl>In the text of a childrens' book written for Japanese children, it has "かるたとりをして、大いにたのしみました。"　When I searched the site, I could only find the RH. Google images give a good idea of the activity, plus a fair number of hits in general in the order of 80k. However, kenkyusha gives support to your entry as follows:-

カルタを取る 【カルタをとる】 have a game of karuta; play a game of karuta; play karuta; WI1

This entry, like as shown in Kenkyusha, could be changed to "する" with a note (like kenkyusha) to say that "取る" is an alternative to”する”.

This entry above is related to the total activity and you may wish to include it as well, but having been driven to search from ordinary Japanese text, I have made my submission as the base identifying the concept of the game.
