<upd_detl>There's a use of this phrase which I thought might be worth adding -- it confused me when I ran across it. It's the form XというX... such as 壁という壁. I've not been able to find an English definition, but at the reference link I did find this explanation:

【3】「という」には、「XというX」の形で、上下に同じ名詞を用いて意味を強める用法がある。Xと呼ばれるものは全部、すべてのX、Xこそは、の意である。「人間という人間すべてに共通する機能」

So it's a way of adding emphasis... where I've seen it, it has the sense of "every X" or "all the X" or "every possible X". Such as "壁という壁はけばけばしい大きなピンクの花で覆われた" -- "all the walls were covered with garish pink flowers".

I've not added a meaning; I though I'd let you decide if it's appropriate for the JMDICT.</upd_detl>
