<upd_detl>After creating that last entry, I noticed in the comment log for the word that a meaning of "be quiet" (similar to "shut up") had been vetoed once before. I do think it would be useful to have it, though... I ran across the word in a conversation in a book, and I came here to find a meaning that seemed appropriate, but none of the more literal meanings in the other senses really captured this more colloquial and figurative use.</upd_detl>
