these sometimes extremely obscure ateji more prominence 
than keeping them as ateji, when tagged with uk. you also 
lose the very information that it is indeed ateji and it 
kind comes across as if this is another, current way of

<upd_detl>we established long ago the "パン rule" that says that when an "ateji" or similar kanji headword (like 麺麭 for パン) is incredibly obscure compared to the kana, then we would just include it as a note.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>I don't think this should be in the kanji field. It's an ateji that's almost never used in Japanese, and we already have it in the castor oil plant entry, as do the kokugos.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>I don't even like it in a note.  Daijirin has 「伊蘭」とも書く, so I guess it might be OK here.  We do it for ドイツ, イタリア and フランス.</upd_detl>
