<upd_detl>In BrE a "reader" is not an assistant - it's a senior position. I've never heard of coadjutor in a university context.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>The kokugos all have an entry for 助手/すけて with the first sense the same as here. Most have a second archaic sense about an assistant at the 節会相撲. I'm comfortable with this entry the way it is, but maybe we could consider splitting 助手/すけて off.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>Hmm. 助ける can be read すける although it's usually たすける. I guess we could take that approach rather than ditching 助手/すけて altogther.</upd_detl>
