<upd_detl>Back in 2006 the comment "《poss. from 八九三》" was added to the main ヤクザ entry. As was noted at the time, 八九三 is just one of the possible sources of the term.
I don't think it's appropriate to add it to this colloquial version, especially since the submission has no references or case for the addition.</upd_detl>
