<upd_detl>"crushed ice" is used in English to refer to the same concept (ice used for cocktails). That seems to be the origin.

There's a sporting event by the same name that is officially titled "crashed ice." Sounds like wordplay to me rather than the etymological origin of this term.</upd_detl>
