<upd_detl>Having seen a "Tataki-zomé" workshop offered in a botanical garden in France, I found online that such workshops also exist in Japan (and elsewhere in the world).
After further online research, it seems that the term is also used in Kasuri (絣) dyeing.</upd_detl>

『紬には様々な品種がありますが、多くは先染めで染色されます。たとえば、紬の品種の1つである結城紬は「たたき染め」という独自の絣染めを行う特徴があります。
「たたき染め」は絣の柄を綺麗に出すために考案された染めの技法です。
絣の柄を綺麗に出すには、絣くくりで防染された部分以外に染料をしっかり染み込ませる必要がありますが、ただ絣くくりした糸を染料に浸すだけではなかなかうまくいきません。
そこでたたき染めでは染料に浸した糸をたたきつけて、十分に染料を糸に染み込ませるようにします。』
