<upd_detl>Maybe this works. I know we don't like abbreviations as the first gloss, but it's the main meaning of the term in Japanese.
When I was younger "flex" usually meant flexible electrical cable, but I'm not sure it does now.
The n-grams are certainly skewed by company names.</upd_detl>
<upd_refs>Reverso has a lot of flexible-hours matches, as well as examples where it means something flexible.

<upd_detl>"Flex" is still used in BrE to refer to flexible insulated cables.
I looked through the Reverso results and they're full of product descriptions where I have no idea what "flex" is referring to. Can it really mean "something flexible"?</upd_detl>
