<upd_detl>I know this is A+B, but the problem is that おとこだて also has 男達 as a possible kanji, which means tools like jisho.org or the various rikai* extensions will automatically suggest that meaning, that could easily confuse beginners.

I doubt that high ngram count for 男達 corresponds to the "chivalrous man" sense, when 男伊達 has a much lower ngram count.</upd_detl>
