「3年の教室に面した廊下 **だけあって** 誰一人として居ない。
(みんなさっさと帰ったみたいだ。3年の3学期に学校に遅くまで残っているバカはそうそういないよな。俺だって約束がなけりゃさっさと帰るよ。)

<upd_detl>Interesting discussion in stackexchange. Makino &amp; Tsutsui have extended entries on だけに and だけあって in the Dictionary of Advanced Japanese Grammer. Basically they're the same, but だけあって can't be used in negative contexts. I'll update an align that one too.</upd_detl>

"contrary to expectations" doesn't work as a gloss for sense 2, and it's not really about "negatives" but rather unexpected results.
