<upd_detl>came across an interesting usage of this word today in
Takatsuki, northern Osaka. I happened upon some kids (I'd
guess around 12-y-o) who had accidentally started a fire in
the reeds by the river. As the fire grew larger they kept
saying ”だるい!だるい!ほんまだるい!"
to me it seemed like they were using it in place of "やばい"
but my native-speaking friend who was with me suggested it
was more like "めんどい" (though she wasn't necessarily all
that familiar with this usage)</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>I think this kind of usage is pretty recent (and probably
not just restricted to Kansai). We were talking to a middle-
aged policeman who arrived at the scene and when my friend
mentioned in passing how the kids were saying "だるい", the
policeman scoffed.
I can't find too much online either but I guess it's fine
just to record this instance of this usage in the comments
for now.</upd_detl>

the correct usage of the word is usually to use the body, a
