<upd_detl>The kokugos don't call 土日 an abbreviation. For a term to be a considered an abbreviation, I think it needs to be interchangeable with an unabbreviated form. 土日 is a blend of 土曜日 and 日曜日, not a shortened form of a longer word/expression.</upd_detl>
