<upd_detl>I saw it in the context of a high school rock band, a list of their songs w this word as the title.

If this can mean "etude/study" I think it should be a separate sense from a more general "song (featuring instruments)"</upd_detl>

演奏 means performance, esp. of music, and 曲 is typically a piece of music. It's by no means restricted to songs, i.e. things that are sung (although these days apps and websites try and call symphony and sonata movements "songs".)
I suggest a fairly generic gloss.</upd_detl>
