<upd_detl>I think a clearer meaning or two would be helpful here.  i understand how it could be translated as "removing one's hat" -- although I've certainly seen that conveyed much more frequently as "taking one's hat off to (someone/something)".  "removing one's hat" sounds too literal to me, and could be confusing to someone who doesn't know the phrase.

But in the spirit of the example sentence, a helpful additional meaning (particularly for those not familiar with the phrase "to take one's hat off to") might be something like "expressing admiration/respect for".</upd_detl>
