<upd_detl>etymology appears to be uncertain.  i always thought it was gairaigo, but daijisen offers: 擬態語「ぶらり」「ぶらん」などからできた語か.  koj, daij say that portuguese is only one explanation: 一説にポルトガル語から、語源はポルトガル語 balanco からという説がある</upd_detl>

(b) drop the lsrc and have a note: "poss. from Port. 'balanço'".
(c) don't mention a source at all.
