<upd_detl>Term is actually from Basque (a language on northen Spain and is a language isolate) and not from Spanish as the source say. In Spanish is called "cesta punta". The Basque term literally translated to Spanish is "fiesta alegre", which means "happy party".  Also, this sport is very niche, at least in Spain.

There is no tag for Basque language in jmdict.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>All the kokugos give Spanish as the source language but they're often wrong when it comes to the origin of foreign words.
I note that the Spanish Wikipedia article says "También se le denomina jai alai" so it's possible that the term entered Japanese via Spanish.
