<upd_detl>GG5 describes it as "New Year's Day according to the lunar calendar" but that's incorrect.

Traditionally, 小正月 referred to the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar (like the Lantern Festival in China). The date was moved to 15th January when Japan officially switched to the Gregorian calendar.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>Sorry to reopen. I agree with your edit, but I noticed in the xrefd entries that we use the term Koshogatsu. This term is also used quite a bit on the web and also in books. It's used with a capital letter.</upd_detl>
