<upd_detl>the gloss is lengthy, but it was hard to trim down and I feel 
it deserves a full explanation. I also wanted to add that it's 
sometimes instead cut with a knife instead of beaten with an 
iwaibou (mentioned in 世界大百科事典 第2版 and visible on some 
google images), but it might be a bit too much.</upd_detl>
