<upd_detl>gg5 has "〔閉口する〕 be nonplussed; be stumped; (質問などに) be disconcerted; " Koj, daij, etc. all have 閉口する as their meaning which is closer to the now removed meaning: stumped, dumbfounded, etc.

The reason I added a separate sense is because it doesn't fit within the existing English senses. It's different from wince and from being fed up with.

A sense should have a common thread of meaning.

Just because other dictionaries don't have a separate sense doesn't mean we should blindly do the same thing. In this cases the jdics all point to 閉口する anyway and "wince, shrink back" "勢いに押されてしりごみすること。たじろぐこと" Daijs and daijr both have the 閉口 sense first, which is why I put it first also. Koj goes by historical order.

A reader could not understand the following sentence for example: "速射砲のような孝子の質問に辟易して、関根は答えずに歩き出した。" (from 離婚旅行 2013) Sekine wasn't wincing or cringing or fed up with his nephew. He was stumped;non plussed or disconcerted

IMO the removed gloss was the most important one.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>I removed that sense because I couldn't find a single corresponding example in any of the dictionaries I had to hand.

Also, prog had the following sentences under a sense labelled "閉口".
His chitchat is simply too much for me (to take).
I cannot stand this heat.
-----
As shown by these examples in GG5, "閉口" doesn't just mean "nonplussed".
I was bored to death by the boss's karaoke.
I get fed up with that man boasting about his wife.
-----
I see now that 辟易 can be used in the "nonplussed" sense, but at the time I made that edit, the evidence suggested otherwise.</upd_detl>
