【ことばについて考える】「舞台人」ということば（舞台関係のことば）
10月13日の読売新聞に、新型コロナウイルスの感染流行が起こって以降、読売新聞の取材部の各部が行った取材内容・報道内容をまとめた特集記事
が掲載されました。舞台などを取材している文化部の取材を紹介した部分に、「活動の場を失った「舞台人」たちの取材を重ねた」という文章があ
りました。この「舞台人」ということばに「　」がつけられているところが気になりました。放送や新聞では、ことばに「　」や〝　〟などをつけ
て「いわゆる」という意味を示します。「舞台人」は特殊な語と考えて、読売新聞は「　」をつけたのだと思います。それはなぜなのだろうと思い
ました。
　この読売新聞の記事を見て、私は、1987年か1988年のＴＢＳの旅番組を見たときのことを思い出しました。その番組では宝塚を特集しており、旅
をしていたタレントが、宝塚音楽学校の本科生数人に話を聞いていました。音楽学校生は「立派な舞台人になれるようにがんばりたい」と答えまし
た。話を聞いていたタレントは「舞台人っていうのね」と驚いたようでした。当時、中学生で、宝塚が好きだった私は「舞台人」ということばをよ
く耳にしていたので、タレントが「舞台人」ということばを知らないということに驚きました。
　その後、「舞台人」ということばに気をつけるようにしているのですが、当初は宝塚で使われることが多いという印象がありました。ところが最
近は、歌舞伎関連の雑誌やそのほか、舞台に関連した専門の本にはよく使われているようです。

マジックショウを見にゆくと、なんとも、不愉快な行為をするマジシャンを何度か見ます。本来、舞台人としてやってはいけないことを平気でする

読売新聞の記事では、「芝居人」の用例はなし、「演劇人」は1880年ごろ以降の使用があり、「舞台人」は1930年代からの使用があります。用例から、
「演劇人」は劇作家などまで広く含まれ、「舞台人」は俳優や演出家、舞台監督など、実際の舞台の公演にかかわる人に限定して使われてもいるようで
す。

<upd_detl>Given that "actor" is often used as a gender-neutral term nowadays, I don't think the "actress" glosses are needed here. It's clear that this doesn't refer exclusively to male performers.</upd_detl>
