<upd_detl>I feel also having gerund glosses are 
helpful for when a sense is a n,vs. It's 
not as if GG5/chujiten/eij try and avoid 
having a bunch of similar definitions for 
one entry so I don't know that we need to

<upd_detl>Gerund glosses can be helpful but I don't think they add anything in this case. A learner will have no trouble translating "彼はアメリカに入国した" as "He entered America" from the gloss "entry into a country".
GG5, Eijro, etc. are aimed primarily at Japanese speakers (i.e. English learners) so it's helpful to have similar glosses in different forms. We don't really have to do that in JMdict.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>I think the additional gloss was also 
helpful for English speakers. Also, while 
it's true that JMdict is not primarily 
aimed at Japanese users, we certainly have 
plenty of them.</upd_detl>
