but I'm not really clear on which sense corresponds to daijs 1 and which to 2. 
daijs 2 seems like our 2: 物事を行うときの，一定の手続きや方法・様式。

<upd_detl>I think the line is rather fine. I struggled with the split. To me, daijs's sense 1 example looks like our sense 2.
It might be better to make "formality" its own sense, as in prog.
I'm not sure "shape" works. It's not in the JEs and I'm not seeing any examples where it would fit.</upd_detl>
