<upd_detl>I can't trace the arrival of this. Paul Blay amended it in 2008 (adding 此方の話) and added the こっちの話 version. He said  of the latter " I hear this one more often because it's more colloquial." I suspect the main meaning is "this topic" or "this item of conversation."
Time for an NSJ  check. It's very common.</upd_detl>
