<upd_detl>i can't believe whole ateji shenanigans. at least it should be coexist カナダ and 加奈陀. カナダ must always in dictionary not as what ateji fanatic say 加奈陀.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>Well, カナダ and 加奈陀 *do* coexist, and カナダ is effectively tagged as the preferred method, since it's marked as "uk" (usually kana). WWWJDIC displays it as:
カナダ 《加奈陀(ateji)》 (n) (uk) Canada
which I think is quite appropriate.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>i'm afraid there is not exist カナダ as entry word as is. it look as though just a "reading", not as head word. since there is not カナダ in dictionary, it is very strange to me.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>In this dictionary both the "kanji part" and "reading" are headwords. The "uk" tag indicates that the kana version is more common.
I agree that it's a subtle point, and for a while we had separate 加奈陀/かなだ and カナダ entries, but we have settled as a matter of policy that the 加奈陀/カナダ(uk)/Canada structure is best.</upd_detl>
