Jim has expressed a preference for the Oxford

proper-use/
Well, appropriately enough, the Oxford
Dictionary has the answer. The proper
definition of the Oxford comma is “a comma
used after the penultimate item in a list of
three or more items, before ‘and’ or ‘or’.”</upd_refs>

<upd_detl>Me? Oxford comma?
Sorry if I gave that impression; I only use them if there's a need to avoid ambiguity. This is quite OK as you have it. (I didn't notice Jim Rose used one, or I would have trimmed it.)</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>My bad. I checked my e-mail and see I asked about this on the mailing list in 2012 and you expressed the same sentiment back then:
"I avoid it unless it's really needed."</upd_detl>
