弥生人が渡来人から受け継いだとされる形質としては、高い顔、高い眼窩（目の部分）、細長い梨状孔（鼻の部分）などがあげられる。
　北部九州から山陰にかけてはこのような形質の古墳人が出土するが、顔や眼窩の高さがやや低い古墳人が、中・南部九州や山陽地方に
みられる。
