In BCCWJ, the sense "brief; simple" occurs nine times, exclusively in the expression 簡にして要を得る.

文部省の仮名遣改定案について「誰か簡なるを認めざらむや。」「然れども簡を尊ぶは滔々たる時代の風潮なり。」
So, it is both a noun and a nari adjective. Since it is not used in Modern Japanese except in that expression, I didn't give it an "adj-na"

The sense "bamboo writing strip -&gt; letter; note; correspondence" has two hits in BCCWJ:
