examples such as the following:

<upd_detl>Interesting that you got rid of the "lumber" part of the 
definition. One source I saw had
1 木材の性質。「―の堅い木」
2 材料としての性質。「―のいい毛布」
and Kojien has something similar.
I don't know of that usage from personal experience, though.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>It was only in a couple of the kokugos, and I got the impression it was an original nuance that now no longer applied. I toyed with keeping it as another sense with an "original meaning" note.</upd_detl>
