<upd_detl>It's case-by-case but we'd usually include a literal version if the expression is also used with that meaning. In this case, it doesn't seem to happen. The xref is possibly useful to indicate that there's an alternative equivalent expression.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>We do usually include lit glosses for idiomatic expressions like this (where the imagery is different from that of the equivalent English expression).
I think the x-ref is fine. We could also add an x-ref to 豚に真珠 pointing here.</upd_detl>
