<upd_detl>My primary reason for including this is sense 2. While rather obvious, I added sense 1 too because having only #2 would confuse dictionary users, and since #1 is more common, I'm leading with that one.</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>I don't think it's necessary in this case. The note and the glosses both have two sets of ellipses.
We tend to use letters only when there's repetition of same term, or when order is important.</upd_detl>
