蟬 is the old original kanji, and is in JIS X 0213, i.e. I can put it into the database, but it won't get to WWWJDIC as it is not in the (JIS X 0212-compatible) EUC-JP coding.
蝉 is the more simplified kanji that's been used in Japan for ages.
I have added 蟬 as an alternative kanji in the database.</upd_detl>

You have it shown as being included above, but it still does not appear in the main entry as shown below:-
蝉 【せみ(P); セミ】 (n) cicada; locust; (P)
Rene suggested reference tools do not include it. So all in all it is a little confusing for a novice who may have looked at Wikipedia or Nelson first.
Even if "蟬" is not the principal one, maybe it should still be in the main entry; especially as it is already included above. Maybe the problem lies in the data base of kanji because it does not come up on the kanji radical search either.

<upd_detl>The gloss "locust" is wrong for this kanji and reading, although many people seem to believe that cicadas are a kind of locust, if we go by the many "debunking" articles about this issue on the web...
By the way, locust is 蝗 コウ or いなご or ばった (same character also in Chinese)</upd_detl>

<upd_detl>Yes, I know that cicada and locust are not the same, and that 蝉 is a cicada, but many Americans call cicadas "locusts", so JE dictionaries tend to have both. The 中辞典 has "《米》 a locust" in its 蝉 entry.</upd_detl>
