<upd_detl>There's a third meaning (準備して待ち構える) that isn't in the kokugos but is now more common than the "stand and watch" meaning, according to the 文化庁's most recent 国語に関する世論調査 (see page 25 of the PDF above). Not sure how best to translate it. The second link has a couple of examples of this usage (which is still considered incorrect by many).</upd_detl>
