The situation with マイクロ/ミクロ is a bit messy. マイクロ is used for terms where it means 10**-6. Apart from that, they are rather interchangeable (the kokugos state that), but マイクロ is more often used with complete loanwords and ミクロ as a prefix to Japanese terms as in ミクロ景気 and ミクロ理論.</upd_detl>
