<upd_detl>However, all my references have a "lunch" sense for 昼, equating it with 昼食. None do the same with 夜. I don't think we can just say they're similar in that respect. (朝 has a breakfast sense in GG5.)</upd_detl>

My impression is that it's used that way, 
but I guess it can't be used as broadly/in 
the exact same way 昼 can. I conferred w a 
native speaker and her instant reaction 
was "no" but she immediately changed her 
mind, "ah, but you do say ’夜どうする’?" 
So while it's not as "obvious" as 昼 is 
for lunch, I think there's a case for 
including it.</upd_refs>
